Angola
(Portuguese West Africa): The south-west of the Congo Basin, and the western slopes of the plateau drained to the Atlantic, form Angola. In the forests of the coastal lowlands are many oil-palms, with some sugar plantation in the cleared area. The chief ports are Loanda, Benguela and Lobito.
Angola has an area of 1246700 Km. It is peoples' republic and the capital city is Luanda. Main language is Portuguese. The climate of the country is that of Savanna type. The people here are engaged in shifting cultivations and old sedentary agriculture.
Coffee is the main commercial production. Groundnuts cotton are also produced. Fishing industry flourishes here as the Benguela current provides cold water. Fish meal industry is well established and canned fish are supplied to the African markets. Manganese iron, copper are mined. All these minerals are exported. Some small industries have been established for food processing, for weaving cotton textile and making cement.
