Population
Peopling of Africa. The continent of Africa is probably the cradle of early man as the oldest fossil evidence has been found in that continent.
In spite of that, the continent is very sparsely populated. The harsh physical environment is one of the major handicaps. Extensive forests and deserts are not favorable for settlements.
The narrow coastal plains bounded by steep scarp of the plateau and waterfalls along rivers prevented migration of people to the interior of the continent. The prevalence of tropical diseases was another handicap for early exploration of the continent. Africa was known as the Dark continent as it was not fully explored. Tribal people lived in small groups, in isolation, leading a simple mode of life based on hunting, food gathering and fishing.
The European nations colonized the continent and these were British, French, Dutch, Italian and Belgian colonies in different parts. The European nations were only interested in exploiting the mineral and other natural resources and indulged in slave trade, exporting slave to the United States. Most of the African nations became independent only after the Second World War. Many of these nations are facing problems due to inter-tribal rivalry, linguistic and cultural differences and in some nations the administration is in the hands of the military regimes. Names of countries and cities have been changed.
Locals hypothesize that the legacy of Italian blood and culture in Cologne, colonized by the Romans more than 1500 years ago, makes the people more jovial and lighthearted. Cologne is the largest city on the Rhine.
Kolsch is not only the dialect spoken here but, also the name of their own top-fermented beer. There are more than 4,000 pubs, restaurant's and brewery taverns in Cologne.
Unlike many of the world's large cities, Cologne, with a population of over a million, gets better every day, there are more things to do and see, more new and innovative buildings... more
