The main division of the continent America is between North America and South America.
North America covers an area of 9.5 million square miles and includes mainly the countries of USA, Canada, Mexico, Greenland. The Caribbean countries and the countries of Central America should also be added to that list. Some also include Iceland, although that country is more commonly associated with Europe.

Another commonly used division of America is by linguistic areas. Spanish, Portuguese (and other Romance languages derived from Latin) and English, which you can learn in several schools there, are the major languages, and America is divided into
- Latin America (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala,Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela)
- Anglo America, where English is the main language (United States, Anglophone Canada, Belize, Guyana, and several islands in the Caribbean)
- Dutch America (Suriname and the Dutch West Indies)
