Another commonly used division of America is by linguistic areas. Spanish, Portuguese (and other Romance languages derived from Latin) and English, which you can learn in several schools there, are the major languages, and America is divided into

  • Latin America (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala,Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela)
  • Anglo America, where English is the main language (United States, Anglophone Canada, Belize, Guyana, and several islands in the Caribbean)
  • Dutch America (Suriname and the Dutch West Indies)
