Delaware is a State on the Atlantic coast covering 5328 km2 (2057 sq miles) on the east of the peninsula between Delaware and Chesapeake bays; it is the country's second smallest state after Rhode Island.
It was first permanently settled by Europeans in 1638, and was one of the original 13 states. Broiler chickens, soya beans, maize and dairy produce are the agricultural mainstays, and chemicals the chief industry. The state capital is DOVER.

Dover is the State capital of Delaware, about 135 km (85 miles) east and slightly north of the national capital, Washington. It was established in 1683 by the Quaker settler William Penn, who founded the state of Pennsylvania, and lies in the heart of a prosperous fruit and vegetable-producing region.
