Maryland is an East coast state straddling Chesapeake Bay and covering 27 394 km2 (10 577 sq miles) northwestwards to the Appalachian Mountains; its southern boundary follows the Potomac River.
It was first settled in 1634 and was one of the original 13 states. Chickens, dairy goods, soya beans, maize, coal, metals, electronics, processed foods and steel are the chief products. With some of the suburbs of the national capital, WASHINGTON, in the state, tourism is also a source of revenue. The state capital is ANNAPOLIS, and BALTIMORE is the largest city.

Annapolis USA
Annapolis is the State capital of Maryland, standing on Chesapeake Bay about 48 km (30 miles) east of the national capital, Washington. It was settled about 1648 and became the Maryland colony's capital in 1694. In 1786, representatives of a number of states of the Union met in the city for the Annapolis Convention, a precursor of the Constitutional Convention, held the following year in Philadelphia. A naval school founded in Annapolis in 1845 became the nucleus of the US Naval Academy.
