Almost half its 381 087 km2 (147 138 sq miles) lie within the Rocky Mountains and the rest is in the high plains to the east. Wheat, cattle, barley and sugar beet are the main farm produce, while minerals extracted include coal, oil, natural gas and some copper. HELENA is the state capital.

Helena USA Helena is the State capital of Montana, in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, about 175 km (110 miles) east of the Idaho border. Gold was discovered in what is now the city centre in 1864. Today Helena is a centre of metal smelting, agriculture and tourism.
