Go off the beaten tracks to Tasik Chini, admire its series of 12 lakes linked by vegetation-clogged channels. Between August and September, pink and white lotus flowers cover the surface of the water.
More than 130 plant species and several hundred animal species have been found in the area, and the lake itself (Lake Chini) is home to 144 species of freshwater fish.
The 12 fresh-water lakes that make up Tasik Chini are steeped in myths and mysteries, from the requisite stories of monsters in the lakes to legends of an ancient Khmer city on the site. Local stories assert that the mythical city would escape attack by sinking into the lake. The latter tale has attracted archaeologists to Tasik Chini, and structures have indeed been located on the bottom of the lake.
Visit Kuantan and admire its State Mosque, Masjid Negeri, with its impressive dome, minarets and its beautiful structure.
Get a ferry across the river to the small fishing village of Kampung Tanjung Lumpur. It offers a spectacular view of Kuantan town. Looking at the skyline from the other side allows you to see the whole town in its wider perspective.
In the mornings and late afternoons, the estuary is a hive of activities with the return of fishing boats. Here you can watch the fishermen unloading their catch and middlemen and customers haggling for the best deal.

"The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page", St. Augustine said. Here at www.travel-university.org we believe that every page must be read and explored. Travel is an avenue of learning that no text or classroom can teach. The world is a living classroom and you the student. We invite you to the www.travel-university.org library where you can read general interest and detail oriented articles.
