North Korea

North Korea
North Korea

When you hear North Korea, you donít exactly think of glamorous attractions and wonderful days out. However, you would be pleasantly surprised. The main place of interest in North Korea is Pyongyang as there are many attractions there. These attractions include; The Kim Il Sung stadium, The Tower of the Juche Idea, The Arch of Reunification, The Triumphal Arch, The Former Residence of Mangyongdae and Kim Il Sung Square.

The Kim-Il Sung Stadium is a large stadium that stands tall and white in colour. It is very beautiful and is the home of the yearly mass games along with football games and the stadium also holds the start and finish of the Pyongyang marathon. Another beautiful and top attraction is the Tower of the Juche Idea. Many people will say that this is one of the most beautiful places in North Korea and is a very good and beautiful place for taking photos and videos. They also say that the top of the tower holds the best view in all of Pyongyang, if not, in all of North Korea. Another attraction is the Arch of Reunification. It was erected in 2001 to commemorate Korean reunification proposals put forward by Kim-Il Sung. The Triumphal Arch is a monumental structure that includes one or more arched passage ways.

Kim Il Sung built this in 1982 and it is the largest Triumphal Arch in the world. It was erected in the place where Kim Il Sung gave his first public speech on October 14th 1945. The Koguryo Tombs include several group and some individual tombs. These are the only remains of the culture and of the ten thousand or so tombs found, only around ninety. These tombs are the burial places of kings, royal family members and members of aristocracy. The Former Residence of Mangyongdae is not every ones ideal place to visit however it is well worth a look if you are in to artefacts and culture. This is the birth place of Kim Il Sung and it is very beautiful. Also, this is the place to visit for anyone directly involved with North Korea as this place means quite a lot to the North Korean people. Kim Il Sung square is the city square in the centre of Pyongyang. It was named after the leader of North Korea and was opened in August of 1954. It is directly opposite the Juche Tower. It is usually the meeting place for rallies, dances, military parades and any media that concerns North Korea. It is the thirtieth largest square in the world and is seventy five square metres in width. It can hold more than one hundred thousand people at once and the buildings surrounding the square hold pictures of Vladimir Lenin, Kim Il Sung and Karl Marx.

Overall, there is plenty to see and to do in North Korea and these attractions are just a starter guide to the many wonderful places to visit. Along with the attractions, artefacts and landmarks, there are also lots of lovely old and new shops, gift shops, lots of beautiful houses and buildings, many top class restaurants that serve top notch food and wonderful night life. Pyongyang is not the only place in North Korea that also has attractions and wonderful places to look at, however due to it being the capital it is the place with the most attractions and is also the biggest city in the whole of North Korea.
