Here under Bordeaux region, you will find information about the wines you can find in this particular region.
Bordeaux is the largest fine wine-making region in the world. It is also one of France's most diverse wine regions. You will be able to taste a great variety of wines: red, dry white and sweet white.
The red wines of Bordeaux are all made of a blend from three and sometimes five permitted red grape varieties.
The Bordeaux region is divided by the Gironde and the Garonne Rivers into two zones. On the west side, there is the Left Bank or the Médoc and Graves and the Right Bank or the Pomerol and St Emilion. Between the two is the large Entre-Deux-Mers district.
The Bordeaux region climate is ideal. It is moderated by the Gulf Stream, tempered by the Atlantic Ocean, with the tallest sand dunes in Europe and the forest of the Landes providing a natural wind barrier protecting the vineyards.
In the Bordeaux region, you will discover the world's best and most famous wines. On the Right Bank, taste the St-Emilion and the Pomerol and on the Left Bank, experience the Médoc, Graves and Haut-Médoc.
St-Emilion is the largest area on the Right Bank, and Cabernet Franc is the grape variety most closely associated with the region.
In spite of its small properties, the Pomerol region makes remarkable wines. They produce the classic wines of Pétrus, Trontanoy, Le Pin, Certan-de-May and Latour-à-Pomerol.
Cabernet Sauvignon is the grape variety king in Médoc, with additional plantings of the other Bordeaux red varieties Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec.
In the Haut-Médoc, you will find the most famous wine communes including St-Estèphe, St-Julien, Pauillac, Margaux and the less-known Moulis and Listrac.
To finish, the Graves, extending along the Left Bank of the Garonne River, is the only Bordeaux region that can claim to make three styles of wine: Red (from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc et Merlot), white and sweet white (from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon).
