Wiesbaden
Did you ever hear of the Germans who were pressed into the service of the English King George III by their king, and then forced to fight against the rebels in the American Revolution? Those men were called Hessians, because they were mostly from the region which is now a federal state called Hessen.

Fifth largest of Germany's states, Hessen is today a major economic center of the Federal Republic. Containing the great metropolis of Frankfurt, the chemical, vehicle, mechanical engineering and electrical industries have been the source of the state's financial success since its unity in 1945.

Frankfurt One of Germany's biggest international airports is in Frankfurt, which is also the home to Germany's biggest library - the Deutsche Bibliothek. The Hessians speak a dialect different from that used in the rest of the Fatherland, while certain regional dishes call for apple wine or a dry, earthy Rhinegau Riesling.
