Group of 30 islands in the centre of the Aegean Sea, lying in a circle around Delos. They were vital links in the early sea-trading routes to the east, producing a race of sailors from around 2600 BC. The islands were occupied by Venetians in 1204, then Turks in the 16th century, before becoming part of independent Greece in 1832.

MIKONOS is the most popular island with tourists, NAXOS is the largest and Ermoupolis on the island of Siros is the group's capital. Soil on the islands is thin, so there is little agriculture, but their coastlines and romantic settings make them attractive to tourists.

"The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page", St. Augustine said. Here at www.travel-university.org we believe that every page must be read and explored. Travel is an avenue of learning that no text or classroom can teach. The world is a living classroom and you the student. We invite you to the www.travel-university.org library where you can read general interest and detail oriented articles.
