Here under SIT - day 14, you will find travel information for that day, with practical information including the opening hours and addresses of the different attractions.
Discover one of Ireland's most important monastic cities, Clonmacnoise.
Nestling between the river Shannon and the boggy plains of West Offaly, clustered on a single site are round towers, high crosses, graveslaps and earthworks.
The monastery goes back to 548 and had become a great centre of learning when the illuminated manuscripts, the Annals of Tighernach and the Book of the Dun Cow were scripted here in the 11th and 12th centuries respectively.
Over one hundred houses were burned when the Normans attacked in 1179. Surviving from the monastic treasures is the 9th century Cross of the Scriptures which has the place of honour in the interpretative centre on the site.

"The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page", St. Augustine said. Here at www.travel-university.org we believe that every page must be read and explored. Travel is an avenue of learning that no text or classroom can teach. The world is a living classroom and you the student. We invite you to the www.travel-university.org library where you can read general interest and detail oriented articles.
