Here under Monaco Oceanographic Museum, you will find travel information, as well as general information about Monaco Oceanographic Museum. Monaco Oceanographic Museum Joined to the Rocher 240 feet above the sea, the Oceanographic Museum is what dreams are made of. From the Rocher's terrace, you have the best possible view, from Estérel to the Italian Riviera. Inside, the aquarium is the focus of everyone's undivided attention, with its 4,500 fishes. Here, admire the speckeled moray, grouper fish, leopard shark, cow-fish, stone-fish, seahorses, and all the other species. There are 400 species in total living in 90 tanks, each one of them unique. The nurse shark needs 25,000 litres of water in order to cohabitate with the large green turtles. The coral reef from the Red Sea, never grown out of its natural habitat until now is the focus of particular attention as is the famous seadragon from southern Australia.

A little distracted by so many acquatic wonders, it's easy to miss out on the other sections to the museum. This Museum houses an interestung section of zoological oceanography. You can see naturalized animals such as the Japanese giant crab and impressive cetecean skeletons: killer whale, sperm whale, narwhal and even a 60 foot long whale from Italy. The applied oceanography hall is heavily into reasearh. Here you can see the reconstruction of the laboratory of Hirondelle II, which belonged to Albert 1. This man, who was passionate about the ocean, led several scientifc campaigns before founding this museum in 1910. Finally, there is an area dedicated to multimedia shows, focusing on the Mediterranean region.

Don't leave the Oceanographic Museum without going on top of the building, on the huge terrace.

85 metres above the sea, there is an exceptional view of the Principality and part of the coast. To the East, the Italian Riviera stands out; to the West, the Cap d'Antibes and the Esterel mountains. To the North-West, the Tete de Chien watches over the Principality from its 556 metres. A little farther, the Mont Agel, 1150 metres. Finally, if the weather is very clear, Corsica can be seen, 180 kilometres South-East of the Monegasque shores.

It is in the exceptional setting that "La Terrasse du Musee" Restaurant offers meals and beverages during the Museum's opening hours.
