Aquarium: Feeding

This is a privileged moment between the aquariologist-technicians and their proteges. Feeding allows them to take stock of the general condition of the animals, after carefully observing their behaviour. To meet the feeding requirements of the different species, food is varied, as far as volume, quantity and of course quality.

Some animals are easy to feed. Distribution of food is a simple formality. For others, patience and cleverness must be used: shrimpfish or frogfish will only eat living prey. Others, like the leopard moray eel and the stonefish, must be fed with forceps or hand-fed individually.

Aquarium filtration

Water is filtered, then sterilized, before being distributed to the tanks. Some operate in open circuit with a permanent water renewal, other in semi-closed circuits or, in the case of the tropical tanks, in totally closed circuits.

All these devices enable the circulation of up to 400,000 litres of water per day. All the key areas of the system (pumps, filters, pipes...) are double-checked to prevent any possible failure.

"The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page", St. Augustine said. Here at www.travel-university.org we believe that every page must be read and explored. Travel is an avenue of learning that no text or classroom can teach. The world is a living classroom and you the student. We invite you to the www.travel-university.org library where you can read general interest and detail oriented articles.
