Day 5:

Cordoba

Mezquita The main place to visit in Cordoba is the Mezquita, a wonderful mosque which is one of great creations of Islamic architecture. See its shimmering golden mosaics and rows and rows of red-and-white-striped arches disappearing off into infinity.

After that, go to the Juderia, a beautiful Jewish district which is today a maze of narrow streets and small plazas, white-washed buildings with flowery window boxes, and wrought-iron doorways giving glimpses of plant-filled patios.

Cordoba by night In the Castle of the Christian Monarchs, at the southwest of the Mezquita, discover its gardens, full of fish ponds, fountains, orange trees, flowers and topiary which are among the most beautiful in Andalucia. Have a break visiting the archaeological museum, housed in a Renaissance mansion, provides a real insight into pre-Islamic Cordoba.

To finish, go to the Plaza del Potro and have a look to the Museo Julio Romero de Torres devoted to this local painter (same name that the museum) who specialized in sensual portraits of Cordoban women.
