Long and low-lying island covering 1345 km2 (520 sq miles), off the southeast Baltic coast. It is linked by a 6 km (4 mile) long bridge to the mainland port of Kalmar. It has a fishing fleet and there is sheep farming and limestone quarrying. Oland has numerous archaeological features, including a reconstructed Iron Age settlement. It is a popular for holidaymakers.

Province covering 8388 km2 (3239 sq miles) just to the west of Stockholm. It was one of the areas around which the Swedish nation was formed in the 11th century from territory controlled by the main Germanic tribes, the Svears and Gothars.
