Here under Switzerland - Zermatt, you will find travel information about Zermatt, the mountain-nested resort in the Alps of Switzerland.
Zermatt is a kind of quintessential Switzerland. Quaint old mountain houses, crisp air, snowy peaks and sharp rocky mountains. Add to it the unavoidable luxury hotels and resorts so much part of the landscape: the Grand Hotel Zermatterhof (exquisite), the Mont Cervin und Residence or the Alpenhof.
You cannot reach Zermatt by car. Travelers leave their cars in the bottom of the valley (in Tasch) and catch a 12-minute train ride (trains leave every 30 minutes or so) to Zermatt, where the only visible cars are electrically powered small delivery trucks.
To see and do in Zermatt area:
Gornergrat - The highest open-air railway in the world. From Zermatt, this magnificent railway leads through several unforgettable viewpoints including one of Mount Rose and its immense glacier circle, and the remainder of the Valais canton. Beyond this, head up to Stockhorn (10,000 feet) to see the landscape up-close that contrasts with the other side of the valley, which is barren and wild.
Gornergrat train departs every 24 mins, summer 7.10am-7.12pm (4.24pm out of season). Tickets 67 S.Fr. return.
Little Cedrvin / Cervin / Klein Matterhorn - An extraordinary panoramic view. Admirable views and walks on the menu in this excursion from Zermatt. They are accessible by cable car. At the end of the trip, the highest resort in Europe awaits. After going over the Théodule glacier, at 11,000 feet, there is a fabulous 360° panoramic view of all the surrounding peaks, from Mont Blanc to the Italian Alps.
"The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page", St. Augustine said. Here at www.travel-university.org we believe that every page must be read and explored. Travel is an avenue of learning that no text or classroom can teach. The world is a living classroom and you the student. We invite you to the www.travel-university.org library where you can read general interest and detail oriented articles.
