(II) On the basis of zones of Influence-On this basis the metamorphism is of two types:-
(a) Contact Metamorphism - The magma emitted out of fissures flows into empty spaces in the rocks. When the empty spaces are filled with magma, the temperature and pressure of the rocks increase. The maximum metamorphism takes place at the contact zones and metamorphism decreases as we move away from the contact zones. Batholith produces most of the metamorphism. There are many examples of contact metamorphism in the Deccan of India and the Garnate area of North America.
(b) Regional Metamorphism - The sedimentary strata are crumpled, crushed and folded due to pressure developed in geosynclines. This is mainly due to pressure and not temperature but effect of temperature is also found to work on the rocks in the interior. Examples of regional metamorphism is found in the Alps, the Himalayas, the Rocky, etc.
"The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page", St. Augustine said. Here at www.travel-university.org we believe that every page must be read and explored. Travel is an avenue of learning that no text or classroom can teach. The world is a living classroom and you the student. We invite you to the www.travel-university.org library where you can read general interest and detail oriented articles.
