Wind plays a important role in modifying the geomorphology particularly in desert and semi desert area.
Wind Erosion. The wind causes erosion in desert areas in three ways: (a) Deflation, (b) Abrasion, (c) Attrition
(a) Deflation. The particles which are loosened on the rocks due to weathering are blown away by winds. The action is known as deflation. This action is mare intense where the earth's surface is deprived of its vegetation cover.
(b) Abrasion. The dust and sand particles present in the air float in the atmosphere. When the winds blow faster these particles act as tools of the wind and wear down the rocks by scraping, rubbing, undercutting, scouring, grooving, etc. The intensity of this action depends upon the speed of the wind and the number of particles present in the air.
(c) Attrition. The dust and sand particles in air, strike against one another and get smaller and rounded by friction. This process is called attrition.
"The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page", St. Augustine said. Here at www.travel-university.org we believe that every page must be read and explored. Travel is an avenue of learning that no text or classroom can teach. The world is a living classroom and you the student. We invite you to the www.travel-university.org library where you can read general interest and detail oriented articles.
