It is very well marked in India and Pakistan, and is also found in Indochina, South China and Northern Australia.
This type of climatic region to the greatest extent is in south and southeast Asia. It includes whole region between 10° North and the Tropic of Cancer that is 23° N. excluding the Himalayan Mountains and the highlands of Southeast Asia, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Vietnam, Compuchea, Laos and also south China, Hainan, Taiwan and the Western Philippines are included in this climatic or natural region. In the south of Equator Northern portions of Australia and Southern fringe of Indonesia are also the parts of this region.
Australian portion of monsoon region has less effect of monsoon as its land mass is less than that of Asiatic region and as Australia lies in the southern hemisphere its winter or dry season starts in December and continues up to April.
June, July and August are the rainy months and 80% rainfall occurs during this period. Cherrapunji in India has yearly average 450 inches. The highest rainfall recorded in one year was 1014 inches.
Natural vegetation of the monsoon region is the, result of wetty and dry conditions. In the wetty conditions the forests thrive and in the drier regions scrub thorn forest and savanna prevail. Natural cover of vegetation does not exist any more because it has been cleared for cultivation and whatsoever remains that is planted. In areas where the rainfall is over 80 inches the dense forests are somewhat similar to those of equatorial regions. The tropical, and more open, monsoon forest, with teak, baobabs, and other deciduous trees, which shed their leaves in the dry season, is found in regions where the annual rainfall is between 40 and 80 inches. In Australia such thorn forest and tall coarse grasses prevail. Monsoon regions have a varied wild animal life. Insects, birds and reptiles are common along with poisonous snakes. Elephants, tigers and rhinoceros are some of the larger animal species. Australian region of monsoon has insects, birds, reptiles and crocodiles etc. Kangaroo is the main animal in Australia.
Asia is one of the most thickly populated areas of the world. India alone has now more than 840 million people. Majority of the people live in farm village, which number more than 600,000 in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Due to certain historical reasons more than seven big and small religions prevail here and 200 languages are spoken in this region of south Asia. Australian monsoon region is less populated.
Agriculture is mainly meant for subsistence, but the commercial farming is not lacking. Rice is grown in more rainy regions and wheat in comparatively dry areas. Due to the density of population farm holdings are small. Intensive farming is common. Irrigational facilities and scientific development both have contributed to the increase in cropping. Dependence on monsoon has been lessened due to irrigational means. Canals have played an important role in this respect. Cotton and jute are produced for commercial purposes.
Manufacturing activity is common on account of availability of raw materials. Cotton textile, jute and steel arc being produced in these areas. Pakistan is also trying to developed itself industrially. Southeast Asia lacks in industries. This has been their reason for supplying the raw material, but at present industry is growing but confined to mainly rice, petroleum and timber.
Victoria on Hong Kong island is also an important city. Jakarta and Manila are the important cities of Indonesia and Philippines respectively. Townsville and Rock Hampton are two principal cities of northern Australia.
Locals hypothesize that the legacy of Italian blood and culture in Cologne, colonized by the Romans more than 1500 years ago, makes the people more jovial and lighthearted. Cologne is the largest city on the Rhine.
Kolsch is not only the dialect spoken here but, also the name of their own top-fermented beer. There are more than 4,000 pubs, restaurant's and brewery taverns in Cologne.
