The forests in West Europe, with the advent of civilization and industrialization, were made the first causality and were cleared. Only Norway has the original vegetation and the rest of the West European region has planted trees. Commercial trees are grown here, but the Pacific North-West in North America, coniferous forests, Redwood, Douglas fir, hemlock and spruce are the common trees species. In the Chilean region evergreen beeches dominate and in the Australian region stand the tall and lofty eucalyptus. Rimu, also known as red pine, is also dominant in the region.
Despite certain limitations, these regions support large numbers of people particularly West European countries. American portion of the Marine west coasts has comparatively less population. So is the case with Chile also.
Agriculture, forestry and fishing are the normal activities of the people of these regions. Manufacturing is done in West Europe and east central North America. Barley, oats and wheat are the chief agricultural products of these West European and east and Central - North American regions. Dairying is common. Sheep raising, pasturing and dairying are the main activities of the Australia, New Zealand and Chile. Fishing is one of the most important activities of West Europe. Cod, herring and mackerel are some of the most important species of fish found in the region. In North America North Pacific, coast Salmon specie of the fish is most popular. In New Zealand and Australia fishing activity is not very important but the more attention is being paid towards this occupation as result of growing potentialities. Logging activity mainly takes place in the Pacific North West. Douglas fir is a very important sources for timber and plywood. In west logging occurs only in Norway. Norway is full of logging activity but Chile has yet to take start in this direction.
As regards mining in West Europe, the Great Britain topped in having coal mines and the main reason of its industrial growth was due to the existence of coal mines. Ruhr area in Germany, Sambre valley of France have accounted for coal. The deposits of Lorrain district of France and Luxembourg and West Germany have played important role in the industrial development of these countries. Excepting these areas the most of Marine west coast regions lack mineral deposits.
Lancashire, Manchester in Britain, Paris and Nancy in France, Ruhr district in West Germany are the main industrial centres of West Europe. Vancouver in Canada, Bremerton and Tacoma in Washington State are important industrial centres. Melbourne, is the main industrial centre of Australia etc.
