The planet closest to the sun is Mercury and that farthest away is Pluto.

The order of the planets, according to their distances from the Sun is as follows.


  1. Mercury
  2. Venus
  3. Earth
  4. Mars
  5. Jupiter
  6. Saturn
  7. Uranus
  8. Neptune
  9. Pluto
The planet largest in size is Jupiter and the one with the smallest size is Mercury. The order of the planets, according to their sizes is given below:

Some scientists think that the Sun in addition to the nine planets had another planet which met an accident in some distant past and disintegrated into pieces. The disintegrated pieces are still revolving around the Sun are called Asteroids. This group of asteroids revolves round the Sun in different orbits.
